In a small village in South Korea, young Minji was excited for the upcoming Chuseok festival. It was a time when families gathered to give thanks for the harvest and honor their ancestors.
This year, Minji had a special wish. She wanted to make the perfect songpyeon (rice cakes) to offer at her grandmother's grave. Grandmother had passed away last year, and Minji missed her dearly.
As Minji struggled to shape the songpyeon, her mother noticed her frustration. "Minji-ya," she said gently, "making songpyeon is not about perfection. It's about putting your heart into it."
Encouraged, Minji continued her efforts. She thought about all the things she was grateful for - her family, her friends, the bountiful harvest. With each rice cake, she poured in her love and gratitude.
On the night of Chuseok, as the full moon rose, Minji's family visited grandmother's grave. Minji placed her imperfectly shaped but heartfelt songpyeon as an offering.
As they sat together sharing stories about grandmother, Minji felt a warm breeze. For a moment, she thought she saw her grandmother's smiling face in the moonlight.
Returning home, Minji joined in the village celebrations. She realized that Chuseok was not just about honoring the past, but also appreciating the present and looking forward to the future.
That night, as Minji gazed at the moon, she made a new wish - to always remember the importance of gratitude, family, and community, just as Chuseok taught.
From that Chuseok on, Minji approached every task with a grateful heart, knowing that it's not perfection that matters, but the love we put into our actions.
Moral: True gratitude comes from the heart. Cherish your family, community, and traditions, for they are the real treasures in life.
